Ganer Opare: Review (27th Sep, 2010 - 2nd Oct, 2010)

It was 8:29 pm in Saturday evening.  I suddenly looked at the watch and jumped from my PC table to the bed. My heart beat was on rise because I could not find the remote. In between the clock touches the 8:30 mark and I desperately grab the remote from behind the TV, then switched it On and heard the starting of “Gaaner Opaarey”. Oh’ what a relief. I know for some fans of Ganer Opare this is a real situation. It’s for me at least.

Now, before going to this week’s review I would like to give you some of the back stage information’s,  which some of you know and some of you don’t. First of all, I am going to thank writer & director Rituparno Ghosh for writing an encouraging script for Ganer Opare, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee for Producing and the director of this first musical drama of this era Joydip Mukherjee for most passionately implementing their ideas.  And no, I am not going to forget one of the most important person, who is in the background of every song we have heard from Ganer Opare and humming them hundreds of times after every show, Debojyoti Mishra the composer of the music of Ganer Opare. This serial has not only introduced new faces in the cast, like  Arjun Chakrabarty as Gora, Mimi Chakrabarty as Sohini or more known as Pupe, Gaurav Chakrabarty as Prodipto, Anindita Bose as Jhinuk and Indrasish Roy as Tintin, but also introduced a new voice in the play back Samantak Sinha, vocalist of Empty Spaces. The other singers are very well known like, Aditya Narayan Biswas*, Amrita Dutta (not confirmed)* and Runu Dutta (not confirmed)*. Actually, there is no site where you can find any information about the singers in detail. But, the entire cast and the singers are a mixture of talent and experience, guiding the “Sonar Tori” of Star Jalsha.

In this week, it started with the hope to see Gora and Pupe together learning songs from Bani Debi. But, the writer has different planes for their meeting and I am quit sure that will be very beautiful. After that there was a new character introduced this week, the new boss of Ayon’s channel and I think he will become a major player of this serial. Other than these excitements the starting episodes of this week are little boring comparing to the later episodes.

    

The middle of the week comes out with a name “Kobinagar” the land of Tagore, the name of the program of Ayons channel. This name comes out with the load of betrayal which fall over Jhinuk because the name has stolen from her. This represents the reality of today’s media. Though Ganer Opare is an imaginary story but its true sense of present situation makes it more watchable. In the end of the week, Chandra Shekhar Deb decided that he will not work in the program of Ayon’s channel and the last episode ends with the melodious representation of Tagore’s song “Badh Venge Dao”.

This week a character of this serial attract my attention, Nikhilesh Deb, the elder son of Chandra Shekhar Deb. Nikhilesh is a very typical character, in one moment he is very emotional about the past and about his father but in the other moment he wants to control the family including his father and he is also jealous of his father’s achievements. I think this type of personality will become an anti-hero later episodes in this serial.

After watching “Ganer Opare” for several weeks my verdict is, this serial is a beginning of new era of Bengali television industry and it is completely watchable for any age with family, because every member of any family can easily find a character like our own. I personally watch this serial for this same reason. When I watch it I find myself in that situation where I can be a singer playing with music and be free from every complications of life. I hope all of you will find the same.
